The Reflection of the Shi‘a Concepts In the “Lessons from the School of Islam” Magazine (1342-1357 SH)

Abstract
Explanation of the Shi‘a concepts in the form of the regular and purposeful discourse leads to the development and promotion of special attitudes in the society, and the publications play a special role in reinforcing these formats of thought in the minds of their addressees. The doctrine and history of Shiism, as a context containing the Shi‘a concepts, has always presented new messages and results in relation to the atmosphere of the society and production of such themes. The present study seeks to explain the concepts inserted in one of the most important seminary magazines before the Islamic revolution of Iran, entitled “Lessons from the School of Islam”, offering a new reading of the Shi‘a concepts in relation to the political, social and cultural conditions of the last 15 years of the Pahlavi period. Thus, to clarify the goals of the producers of the texts in that magazine, we used the method of content analysis and a descriptive-analytical approach, offering an analysis of the quantitative data for frequently-used concepts such as Imam Ali, Mahdawiyyat, taqiyya, Saqifa, Ghadir, poetry and Imams, imamate, Waiting [for the appearance of Imam Mahdi] as well as themes such as the uprising of Fakhkh, the Imam’s knowledge, the verses of Wilāyat and Mubāhila, to which less attention has been paid. The qualitative findings, in three axes based on an integration of frequently-used concepts and less frequently-used themes, has promoted doctrinal and historical denotations with the aim to heighten the level of the addressees’ perception. Besides, the Shi‘a political insight, doctrinal demarcation, and answering the doubts are other dimensions inferred from the consensus of the quantitative and qualitative aspects, which must be pursued.
