Visit to tombs is among the practices agreed upon by Shiite scholars as a legitimate practice. To prove this claim, they adduce the verse 64 of chapter 4 (Nisa), verse 32 of chapter 22 (Hajj), and verse 84 of chapter 9 (Towba) of the Quran. They have concluded that visits to the tombs of the Prophet, Imams, the religious great persons and the believers are a legitimate practice. In many traditions quoted from the Imams, they have stressed on visits to tombs, especially the tombs of the 14 Infallibles. Many scholars have adduced these traditions and dealt with that subject in certain works with titles such as ‘al-Mazar’. The present article is a on that attempt. In addition to these verses and traditions, the Shiite thinkers have used evidences such as consensus, the Prophet’s way of life, human nature, reason, morality, profit, and tolerance in Islam.
