The Muslim emigrants gradually presented Islam to the people of these regions, who converted to Islam and experienced various evolutions in the course of centuries up to now. The Shiism has as a long history as Islam itself in Tanzania, and the emigrant Twelver Shiites in Tanzania – with their background in Islamic India – played, as the emigrants native to the east of Africa, an important and decisive role in history and culture of Shiism in Tanzania. They made use of the appropriate climatic and economic conditions of the region to firmly establish their religious, cultural, and social status, be strongly influential in various domains where they lived, and be the most important factor for diffusing and promoting Shiism among the native black people in Tanzania. The writer of the present article went among the Shiites of Tanzania and Zanzibar to conduct a field study to recall the glorious history of Shiims in these regions and investigate the present situation of today’s Shiites with an emphasis on the role of cultural and educational institutes of Twelver Khoja Shiites in revival of Islam. سرزمین‌های شرق قارة آفریقا در زمرة مهم‌ترین مناطقی است که از همان نخستین سال‌های ظهور اسلام مورد توجه مسلمانان و شیعیان قرارگرفت و اسلام به آرامی توسط مهاجران مسلمان به مردم این مناطق عرضه شد و مردم آن را پذیرفتند و تا کنون در طول قرن‌ها، تحوّلات گوناگونی را تجربه کرده‌اند. مذهب تشیّع همگام با تاریخ پربرکت اسلام، در کشور تانزانیا قدمتی دیرینه دارد و شیعیان مهاجر، به‌ویژه شیعیان خوجه اثناعشری، که پیشینه‌ای در تاریخ هند اسلامی دارند، به عنوان مهاجران بومی شرق آفریقا، نقش مهم و تعیین کننده‌ای در تاریخ و فرهنگ شیعه در این کشور ایفا نموده‌اند. ایشان با بهره‌گیری از شرایط اقلیمی و اقتصادی مناسب منطقه، توانسته‌اند در طول سال‌های متمادی (از قرن 19 میلادی به بعد) ضمن تثبیت و استحکام جایگاه مذهبی، فرهنگی و اجتماعی و اثرگذاری فراوان در عرصه‌های گوناگون محل سکونت خود، عمده‌ترین و مهم‌ترین عامل گسترش و ترویج مذهب تشیّع در بین بومیان سیاه‌پوست این کشور به شمار آیند. نگارنده با حضور در میان شیعیان تانزانیا و زنگبار و مطالعة میدانی وضعیت ایشان در این نوشتار، ضمن یادآوری تاریخ پر عظمت تشیّع در این مناطق، وضعیت شیعیان کنونی این کشور را با تأکید بر نهادهای فرهنگی و آموزشی شیعیان خوجه اثناعشری در احیای این مذهب اسلامی بررسی کرده است. https://www.shiitestudies.com/article_242531_6d1fb45dcc8ab9ec2c4117299b5c924c.pdf
